AROW Global > Mass Transit > AROWGuard Driver Protection Systems

Protect drivers with the AROWGuard Bus Driver Protection System. Transit operator barriers designed to improve safety, visibility, and durability on modern fleets.

Working in conjunction with the transit authorities, transit unions, and bus manufacturers, AROW Global works to develop a custom-engineered driver barrier specific to their needs. The safety shield can be installed or retrofitted onto existing mass transit bus fleets or can be built to satisfy specific OEM requirements on new mass transit bus builds.

  • Swinging the door past the standee line is limited with a heavy-duty impact and tear resistant tether strap.
  • Approximately 5 in. of protrusion into the aisle way above the ADA area, to allow for elbow room and driver comfort.
  • ADA box test compliant, ensuring wheelchair ramp operation and access integrity. Box path is evaluated in CAD for each product configuration.
  • Hinge is free of pinch points and rattles.
  • Designed to attach easily and securely to the vehicle chassis or carlines.
  • Customizable stanchion colors and configurations to work around agency specific equipment. Tailored to work around existing bus equipment such as fare boxes, cameras, and other interfaces.
  • Lower panel of door is constructed of welded aluminum sheet metal panels, providing lightweight, durable and long-lasting protection.
  • Time-tested, and robust AROWGuard rotary latch components and design fundamentals use low profile, snag resistant striker bar.
  • Components can be custom painted or polished to complement vehicle interior.
  • Glazing material meets all industry standards for use in a motor vehicle where requisite for driving visibility.
    • Minimum of 5/16” (8mm) thickness and tempered / laminated construction with anti-glare coating on surfaces #1 and #4, reducing light reflectance to less than 2%.
    • Complies with American National Institute, Standard ANSI/SAE Z26.1-1996 S5.2, FMVSS 571.205 49CFR, and SAE J673 #1 edge standards for automotive glazing.

  • Available on all major heavy duty low floor and commuter bus platforms, and on some light rail applications.
  • Detent to enable smoother, graduated and more controlled door swing and operation.

  • Electromechanical wheel-well latch to enhance security and integration with vehicle systems, holding the door in the open position and blocking the aisle bulkhead.

  • Multiple door latch/lock options to meet operational needs and security requirements:
    • Concealed exterior latch release access.
    • Patented configurable locking options, including drivers’ side toggle or exterior keyed (custom key, square drive key, etc.).
